The threat of deflation in Switzerland fizzles
Inflation in Switzerland in January was stronger than analysts' forecasts - this assumes that the threat of deflation comes to naught.
Consumer price index in January rose by 1,0% against last year, although it decreased by 0,1% compared to the previous month, according to statistics office.
"Influence (winter) sales were weakened by rising prices for crude oil."
Net inflation, which excludes volatile components such as the price of tobacco products and fuel, rose by 0,6%.
Economists polled by Reuters, forecast annual growth in core consumer price index by 0,6%.
Switzerland came out of the recession in the 3 rd quarter of 2009, and now the latest indicators point to a further recovery in economic activity. Last year, the CPI fell the most since 1959.
