Brown will give Greece the money only through the IMF

In anticipation of today's summit of EU leaders in Brussels, British Prime Minister Gordon Brown told FT, that Europe should "meet" and become more competitive, hinting that "the British claim to a leadership role in the forthcoming discussions."

In an interview, Brown stated that during the past 18 months (despite the fact that Britain has not yet introduced the euro), the country has played a "pivotal role" in the direction of the economy of Europe.

Nevertheless, the Prime Minister stressed that Britain refuses to help Greece with money, explaining his decision that "is primarily concerned governments of Greece and the euro zone.

In addition, Brown said that from the UK can only be indirect support through the IMF, if he did take part in solving this problem.

"We knew that in a country such a situation would soon arise, so clearly understood that require additional support," - added the Prime Minister.
